(7th & 8th graders only)

This course brings important science concepts to life. Daily hands-on activities and experiments focus on creativity and generating an interest in science. Students will apply aspects of the scientific method to the different tasks and challenges posed. Working on these tasks will allow students to develop teamwork and collaborative skills, while also learning the importance of science in our everyday lives and the future.

Math in Action

(7th & 8th graders only)

This course focuses on using math skills in a fun and creative hands-on way. Through various card, dice, board and problem-solving games, students will experience math in action and see its relevance in our daily lives.

Elementary Robotics

This course is a broad introduction to robotics and elementary robot programming. Students will use Lego Mindstorms EV3 robot kits to build, program and explore principles of robotics, construction, actuation, perception, control, and communication, running their creations through mazes, over obstacles and competing in timed trials.

Thinking in Code/ Game Design

This course is an introduction to coding using a block-based programming language. Students will create their own original games using programming constructs such as "for loops" and "if statements" and gain the tools required to think in code.

Laboratory Techniques

This popular course focuses on skills used in the research laboratory. Students explore microscopy; isolating, amplifying and visualizing DNA from humans and food (polymerase chain reaction or PCR); bacterial transformation, and multiple dissections.

SAT Prep Review, English and Math

This course is open to rising 11th-12 graders. Any additional slots will be open to rising 10th graders. An SAT practice book and general materials will be provided. Additional slots will be open to rising 10th graders.

*This course may not run in Summer 2025. An alternative SAT Prep will be offered.

Reclaiming Green Space in the Concrete Jungle

Explore how humans interact with and impact the urban ecosystem, and how it affects us in turn. Readings, experiments, independent observations, nature journaling, and field trips to NYC farms and composting sites will allow students to explore their local ecosystems to better understand the variety of life we coexist with. We will discuss how humans have both damaged and worked to improve urban environments, and how to build more diverse, equitable, and healthy ecosystems for all. Field trips will involve hands-on and outdoor experience with local composters and urban farmers.
